about

A man playing guitar and a woman singing and smiling in a lush garden, framed by an old brick archway surrounded by green foliage.

Bit The Pip are a folk-fusion duo, hailing from two different sides of the globe. The band perform an honest, endearing mix of folk tunes and originals, intertwined with storytelling and improvisation. On stage, the pair journey through shades of light and dark, combing silky vocal harmonies, infectious rhythmic guitar and soaring violin improvisation, in a state of pure togetherness.

Bit The Pip were formed in the Autumn of 2022, when Phoebe (they/them) and Hugh (he/him) decided to embark on a cycling and busking tour of Europe - nothing like being a broke busker for getting music made! During this trip, the pair merged Phoebe’s folky UK roots with Hugh’s DIY kiwi ethos, and fell in love with each other and the music they created. It was here that they began to learn about other things too, such as permaculture and the value of real community.

Songs often refer to their close connection to each other, family and wider world issues. The pair draw from a wide range of influences including folk, reggae and classical improvisation, and love to connect with equally diverse audiences! In 2025, the band recorded their first EP, ‘Journeying’, under the name Quercus, although they have since upgraded this name of course! ‘Journeying’ served as a momento to their past adventures, and a sign of the fabulous music making to come. Since then, they have toured around Aotearoa (NZ) and have now returned to the UK, keen to keep on building community and connecting audiences through their pukka sound!

Something to note: some people may refer to Bit The Pip as ‘Bop The Pip’, ‘Spit The Pip’, ‘Bit The Snip’ or indeed a combination of the three. If you come across such fellows, please correct them accordingly.
